Interesting article. It’s fascinating to see all the blogs that have been getting book deals recently. However, I wonder what percentage of people have had their careers suffere because of their blogs.

There are people who have had their careers negatively affected by what they have written in blogs - most notably, Heather from dooce.com. However, the lessons learned revolve around the fact that this blog world is so very visable and so very accessable now. Blog authors have to remember this every time they hit the “publish” button on a post. We have to be smart about what we write about - respect our employer’s privacy.

But if someone wants to write about their job in detail, they need to remember to be discreet and vague about it while still getting the story across. Anonymity still reigns supreme as long as the details can’t be traced back to the person writing the post.

I have often thought about creating a blog that just focuses on my career in teaching. Right now it’s too tempting to write about anything I want to a whim, be it teaching kids or even shopping at Kohl’s.:)
